#Islamic Motifs Exhibition Features #Emirati Photographer’s Work


Marwan Al Ali’s photographs, now on display at Sharjah Calligraphy Museum, capture the intricate Islamic decoration of UAE mosques 

SHARJAH, Oct 13th, 2015: A collection of pictures of Islamic geometric and floral decoration by the young Emirati photographer Marwan Al Ali currently on display in Sharjah.
The exhibition, entitled Islamic Motifs, features 65 photographs inspired by the Islamic architecture of mosques across the UAE. As well as the intricate exterior designs adorning domes and minarets, Al Ali has captured the interior aesthetic and the calligraphy used to decorate the halls and walls of mosques. 
The exhibition, which will run until Nov 30th, is being held at the Sharjah Calligraphy Museum.
Al Ali, who works as an engineer, is an award-winning photographer whose work has been shown at numerous local and international exhibitions. His accolades include first prize in last year’s Sharjah Arab Picture Awards, and first place at the Tawasul Exhibition 2- Emirates Fine Arts Society 2012.
Al Ali is also a founding member of the Emirates Geographic Society and an active member of several non-profit and voluntary organizations. 

Manal Ataya, Director General of Sharjah Museums Department (SMD), said: “This is a chance for Sharjah residents and visitors to experience the work of a young, up-and-coming Emirati photographer.
“Supporting local artistic talent by providing a platform to showcase their work is something we believe very strongly in, and this is reflected in our year-round program of exhibitions.”   
As well as viewing Al Ali’s photographs, visitors to the Islamic Motifs exhibition will get to see a spiritual manifestation of calligraphy brought to life through cutting-edge 3D technology.






About the Sharjah Museums Department:
