CULTURUNNERS by @EdgeofArabia & @ALJCI > launch at Rothko Chapel #Houston (21st Sept.)

On the occasion of the United Nations International Day of Peace, theRothko ChapelArt Jameel and Edge of Arabia invite you to an evening of discussion, film and music to launch CULTURUNNERS, a three-year road-trip connecting artists in the US and Middle East.

Together with our local partners, the Rothko Chapel, FotoFest Biennial and the Arab American Cultural & Community Center (ACC), we invite you to join us in celebrating UN International Day of Peace and honoring the freedom of direct cultural exchange and physical mobility for artists across borders. The CULTURUNNERS launch will include a participatory discussion between artists Sarah Abu Abdullah and Taysir Batniji, scholars Professor Ussama Makdisi and Dr. Dina Al-Sowayel and cultural activists Fred Baldwin, Wendy Watriss and Stephen Stapleton, working in and between the United States and Middle East. Exploring how artists' mobility and action can challenge cultural misrepresentation and propose unofficial narratives towards an alternative history.

The launch will also feature a special film screening on the Chapel façade by pioneering Mecca-based artist and Edge of Arabia co-founder Ahmed Mater as well as a special music performance to commemorate the start of this timely journey.
